Suitability Lists of Photoinitiators and Photosynergists for Food Contact Materials
EuPIA updated its Suitability Lists of Photoinitiators and Photosynergists for Food Contact Materials. Whilst one substance was removed, the document as such has been reviewed and slightly restructured.
5th Version of EuPIA GMP published
Since 2009 the EuPIA Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) stets standards and assists in controlling food safety hazards in the design and manufacture of inks, varnishes and coatings for food contact materials. Products developed and manufactured in compliance with the GMP are supporting manufacturers of FCM in supplying products compliant with the applicable legislation in Europe for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food, such as the Framework Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and GMP Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006.
EuPIA is constantly working on improving and adapting its concepts. This also applies to the GMP, which is now available in its 5th completely revised version. Among other topcis, the new version has been restructured, to be in line with the current ISO9001:2015, has an expanded geographical scope and was clarified regarding the information on raw material composition and on NIAS that the raw material may reasonably be expected to contain.

More clarity regarding the German Ink Ordinance (GIO)
The so-called GIO was published in 2021 and sets out rules for printed food packaging in Germany. However, there is a transitional period until 1 January 2026. This period has been set so that manufacturers of chemical substances used in printing inks can still add substances to the ‘positive list of the ordinance’ To this end, dossiers with toxicological data must be submitted to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). A pilot project involving VdL, federal ministries and federal authorities has now clarified a number of questions that had remained open in the ordinance. Also EuPIA experts contributed heavily to the project. The final report can be found online.
