They make packaging attractive and identifiable and are vital to industries and public bodies who rely on them for all types of printed materials including mail order catalogues and business stationery. Printing inks are also used to decorate wall coverings and produce posters and art prints which all brighten our immediate environment. Manufacturers of printing inks consist of companies that specialise in this market. Their product ranges are geared to printing inks and related products for all graphic processes. Printing inks production is highly rationalised and technical, leading to continuous product improvement. Manufacturers constantly strive to offer their customers complete solutions to their specific applications. The development of new substrates (especially in the packaging sector), of faster printing machines (especially in the publication sector) made the research and development efforts of printing ink manufacturers expanding. Like the paint industry, the printing ink industry is undergoing changes, but keeping national structure besides large international businesses. The diversified structure of the graphic industry and the needs for the printing ink suppliers explain the role played by local manufacturing facilities offering service and added value to the local printers. The European Printing Ink Group of CEPE improves its identity as an important sector of industry under the name of EuPIA, European Printing EuPIA is composed of all printing ink manufacturers member of CEPE national associations and of affiliated companies in countries where such associations do not exist. EuPIA is the forum for discussion and decision-making with a view to creating a responsible representation of the European printing ink business. EuPIA is a group inside CEPE. Its members participate in working groups dealing with issues of general interest to the wide CEPE membership. Supported by the European Technical Committee ‘Printing Inks’ for health, safety and environment issues, EuPIA will contribute to entrepreneurship in the graphic and packaging chains by emphasizing the added value of the products and thus their contribution to the quality of life.
